The ART exhibition "The Great Return" 2 visited the Regional Museum of Natural History - Plovdiv
The exhibition features a series of scientific illustrations, paintings, prints, digital images and other mixed media works by members of the Society of animalists, florists and scientific Illustrators - DAFNI - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057368052744… .
Inspired by the rare and protected species subject to restoration programs in Bulgarian nature and targeted conservation and scientific activities, the authors present the relationship between art, science and wildlife conservation. The creative initiative is the result of the partnership of Green Balkans, the Fund for Wild Flora and Fauna, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", the National Academy of Arts and of course the illustrators from DAFNI.
From 05. 10. 2022, for about a month, nature lovers and art enthusiasts in the city under the hills will be able to enjoy the works placed in the exhibition hall of the Natural History Museum in Plovdiv, announced the team of the project "Life for the Lesser Kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017, implemented by Green Balkans with the support of the LIFE Programme of the European Union. The Lesser Kestrel is one of the bird species that until recently were considered extinct from Bulgarian nature. One of the last documented breeding sites of the rare Saker Falcon is the hills of Plovdiv, and today, thanks to the efforts of Green Balkans, these birds are breeding again within the borders of our country.
"For the first time in our country, an attempt is being made to present art, science and wildlife conservation as one, and The Great Return aims to show the connection between them. The exhibition focuses on the problem of the extinction of more than 30 species of animals and plants from the territory of our country, as well as on the attempts to restore their populations. The artists featured in "The Great Return" and their work shape the contemporary image of Bulgarian scientific illustration and wildlife-inspired art," say the exhibition organizers. "The Great Comeback" 1 and 2 are artistic performances, part of two scientific conferences held in 2015 and 2021, dedicated to an extremely topical issue related to rare extinct species of plants and animals and attempts for their return, add the SFFNI and Green Balkans.
We look forward to seeing you!
